My name is Sean Spence.
I am a progressive Democrat who has wanted to represent this district since I was a student at the University of Missouri. My mission is to make sure that every Missourian is educated, employed and insured – and that statement is more than just a group of words to me. It is my firm belief that having a strong Missouri requires that we find a way for all of our citizens to meet these basic needs.
You will find I have the commitment to progressive values and experience that will make a difference in Jefferson City. My career has revolved around a combination of business, public relations and politics. I got my start working with some of Missouri’s great progressive leaders, including Ken Jacob, Joe Maxwell and Roger Wilson.
Over the last 15 years, I have worked with candidates around the country, started businesses that have made it possible for my employees to feed their families, and worked in the Fortune 500. Today, I split my time between my public relations and political consulting practice and part-time work in the office of State Auditor Susan Montee (whose race I managed).
I want to work in the Missouri State Legislature because it is the best way for me to make a difference and give back to the community that I have loved since I was 17 years old. The legislature offers the best platform to address key issues that matter to me – education (elementary & secondary, as well as protecting MU); health care (diagnosed with MS in 2003, I have a unique perspective and knowledge of our health care system); and jobs (starting with my work in a Columbia business incubator 15 years ago, I have a long history in economic development).
